Local Craft Breweries: A Beer Lover’s Guide Near Tidewater Golf Club

Welcome to the illustrious corner of South Carolina, where the sun kisses the Atlantic Ocean, and the grass seems always greener. As a lover of golf, you are doubtlessly familiar with the splendors of the Tidewater Golf Club, an enchanting place in North Myrtle Beach where people from all walks of life gather to play the gentlest sport in history. But if you’re a beer aficionado too, then we would like to explore the unseen side of Myrtle Beach.

We invite you to stroll from the well-kempt greens to the local culture brimming with distinctive craft breweries. As a resident of Myrtle Beach, I’ve had the delight of indulging in these local charms and will serve as your guide today.

New South Brewing

Let’s start with Myrtle Beach’s very own New South Brewing. This gem is about a 30-minute drive from Tidewater Golf Club. Since 1998, New South Brewing has taken the SC beer market by storm, brewing a collection of ales and lagers with a passion that can only come from artisans committed to the craft.

Their motto, “The beer from here”, reflects their commitment to the local community. Commenting on their beer styles, they range from crisp lagers like their White Ale, a Belgian witbier, or their Dark Star Porter which embodies rich and roasted flavors.

Myrtle Beach’s Grumpy Monk

As we continue, be sure not to miss out on the Grumpy Monk. Known for their delightful sushi menu and around a 40-minute drive from Tidewater, the Grumpy Monk offers an appealing craft beer selection. Here, seasonal treats mingle with perennial favorites like the Green Eyed Blond or the Clover’s Red Ale. Even more, their outdoor deck beckons patrons to relax in the Carolina sun/beach weather, a perfect cap to a day at Tidewater.

Brewing Up at Quigley’s Pint & Plate

Located a mere half-hour from Tidewater Golf Club, Quigley’s Pint & Plate in Pawleys Island is a brewpub with exceptional charm. They offer a selection of locally brewed ales and lagers, twice award-winning SC Best Ale (2018, 2019). Every Wednesday, locals and tourists alike join Quigley’s for a cask ale – it’s practically a community event. Accompany these excellent brews with a generous menu comprising Lowcountry fare, and it feels just like home.

An Evening at the Grand Strand Brewing Company

If you have a bit more time in your schedule, consider heading down to the Grand Strand Brewing Company, situated in downtown Myrtle Beach. This new entrant to the local craft beer scene opened its doors in February 2021 and has been creating buzzworthy ales and lagers since then. The location is prime, with the brewery overlooking Nance Plaza. The outdoor stage offers nightly entertainment to enjoy alongside their variety of crafted brews.

Closing Time at Tidal Creek Brewhouse

Finally, if you’re seeking a balance between golfing at Tidewater and indulging in local craft beer, then a trip to Tidal Creek Brewhouse is a must. Around 30 minutes from Tidewater, they serve a variety of beverages including but not limited to hard seltzers, nitro brew coffees, kombuchas, and of course, crafted ales.

The atmosphere at Tidal Creek is serene, seamlessly blending into the cool, beachside aura with a spacious beer garden and deck. Their core beers like the Brown Pelican English Brown Ale or Highway 17 Saison add excitement to flavor profiles while maintaining an even keel.

Combine these beer destinations with the deftly maintained greens of Tidewater Golf, and your vacation to Myrtle Beach is bound to be nothing short of delightful. Each brewery has its distinctive flavor and vibe, making this Atlantic seaside city a bucket-list destination for beer enthusiasts and golf lovers alike. Until you can make it to Myrtle, keep sinking putts and lifting pints. Cheers!

  1. As a golfer and a self-proclaimed beer connoisseur, this article couldn’t have been more alluring. Myrtle Beach has been on my vacation radar for a while now. Guess it’s about time I make a trip and visit Tidewater Golf Club, not to mention the various local breweries. Can anybody suggest the best time of the year to go?

  2. I never thought I’d hear ‘golf’ and ‘beer’ in the same sentence but you nailed it! My husband is an avid golfer and I am a brewery enthusiast. We’ve spent so many vacations doing separate activities, but this…this could be our thing! Guess we have a new spot on our bucket list.
